<blockquote class="posterous_long_quote">With the iPhone and the iPad, Apple has either smartly or stupidly drawn a line in the sand and declared themselves no longer just the arbiters of hardware and system UI but arbiters of content and commerce as well. If you want to develop or produce content for Apple’s ecosystem, you will do exactly as Apple tells you to do. If you want to enjoy Apple’s products as a consumer, you’ll enjoy every freedom Apple provides and live with every limitation they impose. It’s like a country club. Apple isn’t saying you can’t play golf with your pit-stained t-shirt and denim cutoffs. They’re just saying you can’t do it at their club. Apple wants to run the most profitable country club in the world, with millions of members, but they don’t want everybody; and therein lies the difference between how their resurgence is playing out and how Microsoft’s dominance ultimately played out.</p></blockquote>

<p>Would-be revellers are using satellite images on the internet to find houses with swimming pools &#8211; and then turning up uninvited for an impromptu dip. </p>
<p>The craze involves using the Google Earth programme, which provides high-quality aerial photos of Britain and other countries. </p>
<p>Once a target is chosen, the organisers use social networking sites such as Facebook and Bebo to arrange to meet, say police.</p>
<div class="clear"> </div>
<p> <img src="http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2008/06/17/article-1027306-01A4EB3600000578-694_468x286.jpg" alt="A potential target? A pool in the back garden of a house in Dorset as seen on Google earth" width="468">
<p>Officers said that residents have woken up to find youngsters &#8216;dipping&#8217; in their back gardens, or have come home from work to a swimming pool full of beer cans. </p>
<p>One group has already boasted on the internet that it held an event earlier this week. </p>
<p>Sixteen people are said to have gatecrashed two pools near Bournemouth. </p>
<p>The rules of &#8216;dipping&#8217; often include wearing fancy dress and participants are urged to &#8216;bring a bike&#8217; to escape if discovered. </p>
<p>There are fears that the craze could spread across the UK as the weather improves and pool owners leave their homes unattended while on holiday. </p>
<p>A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said yesterday: &#8216;We are advising owners of swimming pools to be on their guard. </p>
<p>&#8216;We would also warn prospective swimmers that using someone else&#8217;s pool is trespassing and therefore illegal.&#8217; </p>
<p>The group responsible for organising Monday&#8217;s &#8216;dipping&#8217; session listed a specific meeting place, a midnight to 3am duration and mobile telephone numbers for the organisers. </p>
<p>Although there were only 16 confirmed participants at the &#8216;event&#8217;, invitations were sent to more than 500 users on Facebook. </p>
<p>Comments left by admirers of the group suggested that the craze could be spreading. </p>
<p>One message reads: &#8216;You crazy lot and your crazy antiks (sic). Don&#8217;t think I can make it but maybe I can do it on my own in London.&#8217; </p>
<p>Social networking sites such as MySpace have previously caused trouble for families after private parties advertised online have been gatecrashed by hordes of unruly teenagers.</p>
<p>A £4million mansion in Marbella last month became the latest home to be invaded by uninvited guests, when they gatecrashed a girl&#8217;s 16th birthday party. </p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<br /><small style="border:thin dashed;margin:5px 205px 5px 5px;padding:5px;background-color:#d0e4fe"><a title="Yo Mama" href="http://myopiclunacy.com/yomama"><script type="text/javascript"><!-- document.write(''); --></script></a></small><br />&nbsp;<br /><p>I know things are tough for Yahoo these days, but is marking competitors&#8217; email as Spam the way to go? I have a Gmail account that forwards a copy of my mail to my Yahoo email account. It&#8217;s my cheap psuedo-redundancy setup. Normally this works fine, but it seems that, starting today, I&#8217;m getting mails sent from Facebook bounced back from Yahoo under the auspices of a email abuse.<br />
Technical details of permanent failure:</p>
<blockquote><p>PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 16): 554 Message not allowed &#8211; UP Email not accepted for policy reasons. Please visit <a href="http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/defer/defer-04.html[120]">http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/defer/defer-04.html[120]</a></p></blockquote>
<p>Utterly useless. So I google search for the error text and come up with <a href="http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/postmaster/postmaster-27.html">this gem</a>:</p>
<blockquote><p>554 Message type not allowed. UP Email not accepted for policy reasons</p>
<p>If you receive an SMTP error or bounce message containing the text string</p>
<p>UP Email not accepted for policy reasons. Please visit http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/defer/defer-04.html</p>
<p>there is something about the message contents that Yahoo! Mail will not accept for policy reasons. For instance, it is against Yahoo! Mail&#8217;s policy to send phishing/fraud attempts or viruses. If you feel you have received this error for a message that should be accepted, we encourage you to provide us with detailed information about the rejected message.</p></blockquote>
<p>Nice to see that it&#8217;s now policy to reject email from your competitors. I had a similar problem last year where none of my G-Mail would get through to Lauri&#8217;s Yahoo mail. But that seemed to have been fixed. Let&#8217;s hope this is just a blip on the radar.</p>
