The rantings of a sports fan and gadget junkie suffering from societal vertigo. Think of it as the space-age polymer of the blog world.
Keith Olbermann was on fire tonight over lobbyists buying the healthcare votes – even naming names!

You didn’t think that Republicans had a masterstroke of thought, did you? Call it the Piracy of ideas. They steered their privateering ship up to the SS Libertarian and pillaged and plundered the idea booty of Captain Ron Paul. Argh!!
Tax Protest Origins: Ron Paul Supporters Make Case On “Rachel Maddow” (VIDEO)
Who invented this Tea Party stuff, anyway? Glenn Beck? Rick Santelli? Twinings? The matter is up for dispute. Serious dispute. In fact the dispute over who invented the tea party may be a more serious and substantive dispute than anything that will actually be disputed at the Tea Parties themselves. On the Rachel Maddow Show Tuesday night, Maddow explained the burgeoning teabaggy rift that’s emerged within the teabaggers. On one side: RON PAUL SUPPORTERS! They were going to float around the country on a blimp and drop tea into Boston harbor. On the other side: a special Astroturf comprised of Newt Gingrich and Fox News and Dick Armies.
It’s Paul’s supporters who most strenuously claim ownership, and they largely feel that their great works have been co-opted by the GOP. Maddow quotes libertarian activist Jason Pye, who griped to the Washington Independent thusly:
Bringing in someone like [Newt] Gingrich takes away from the message…Newt Gingrich enabled George W. Bush…he enabled the big spending. He lobbied conservative Republicans to compromise their principles and support Medicare Part D. He supported the bailout.”
So how did the tea parties go? Swimmingly. It was a motley mix of anti-fascists, anti-socialists, anti-immigrationists, anti-inclusivists, and anti-taxists but all anti-Obamists. And the publicity-seeking TV pundits and politicians to whom they owe their relevance. Check out the pictures from DC:
There was even a Tea Party here – although not a big one. It was three dudes. At the post office. In Spanish. I wonder if those anti-Immigration dudes in DC would approve.
And as I drove by to mail my taxes, I felt solidarity with the movement. No taxation without representation … that we voted for! I wonder if, given that, I could have not paid my taxes under the 8 years of Bush because I didn’t vote for him! Or if, in the future, I should protest the government policies of the governments I don’t vote for using mob-rallying hyperbole? Wouldn’t be America if I didn’t! These people better be glad ol’ Dick Cheney’s out of office – he wouldn’t have any of this protest shit going on under his watch.

Rachel Maddow on how important it is for our government to regulate, specifically in this case, food inspectors.
Self regulation in a for profit marketplace with global competition? Yeah right! And I’ll show you a unicorn.

VERRRY Interesting. And I’m sure they didn’t use any bailout money either. It’s even more troubling based on some opinions that AIG is dead firm walking, that when the government finally unwinds all the company’s legally fraudulent insurance policies, the company will have to be split up, spun off, with parts of it taken out back and shot. Why do you need PR for that?
And on top of that, as the video shows, this PR firm is particularly notorious. Which just reinforces the view that AIG is just a corporate collection of shitholes.
I shoulda known 2 years ago when they started to sponsor Manchester United. That’s a real axis of evil for ya.

Why does Sarah Palin disrespect the American Flag? << Brilliant at Breakfast
This photo, used in a Newsweek article last year about Sarah Palin, appears on the 2009 Sarah Palin calendar, and was just lauded by Pat Buchanan on Morning Schmegegge as a demonstration of her patriotism:
United States Flag Code, Title 4, Chapter 1, Sec. 8(d):
The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. Why does Sarah Palin hate America? Why does she desecrate Our Flag?
Labels: hypocrisy, Sarah Palin

with Rachel Maddow. No, not just because she’s hot in a “Bull Dyke” sorta way (her words, not mine). No, because of interviews like this:

Not only is she a progressive cable news talk show host with roots in Air America. Not only is her list of academic achievements longer than Britney Spears’ medical file. No – she is also secure enough in her beliefs to invite her idealogical opposites on and, when pressed by them trying to take a dig or blast through their talking points she is able to engage in robust debate without trying to outtalk them or scream over them. That’s hot.
Did you see David Frum (conservative columnist who said McCain’s campaign is toast and all but conceded the race) trying to blame her for the lack of serious political discourse on important issues? I sure hope he does that on every other network and cable news show that booked him. You know – the ones that show SNL clips or have talking-point-armed parrots on or even someone like Jeanne Moos tracking down Obama Girl
Jeanne Moos tracking down Obama Girl.
IMO Rachel does better than Olbermann (who brings on a bunch of like minded people to just reinforce his points) and Hardball (because he’s just screaming) and especially better than anything on Fox. Plus anyone who can visibly enjoy debating Pat Buchanan is ok in my book.
Long Live Maddow.

It’s happening again
All of the models bar one have this thing cuting right through southern Louisiana. Sure they’ve made progress in fixing things up, but a Cat 4 Hurricane may undo it all in one night. 150+ mph winds sustained – gusts up to 200. So it’s pretty classless that a guy like Michael Moore, a clown with some film making talent and unfortunately a voice in politics, to go on TV and say something as callous as this:
“I was just thinking, this Gustav is proof that there is a God in heaven,” Moore said. “To just have it planned at the same time, that it would actually be on its way to New Orleans for Day One of the Republican convention, up in the Twin Cities, at the top of the Mississippi River.”
I mean, come on! You sit there and accuse Republicans of being out of touch with the common man and then you start cracking jokes on what a Hurricane will do to the GOP convention? When a bunch of people who just started putting their lives back together are faced with another life-changing event? What a tool this guy is – someone should send his ass to New Orleans and have him try to survive in the toxic water and inhumane post-storm conditions.
Keith Olbermann should bear some blame for not calling out Moore on this either. I understand being a left-wing pundit, but if you’re gonna call out Dubya and McCain you have to call out Moore too, or you’re no better than Hannity and O’Reilly.
Apparently some Democratic congressman was caught saying the same thing on a plane flight, but the quality of the youtube video seems a bit dubious.
but yeah … Michael Moore needs to take a long vacation to Kinshasa or Kamchatka or something and leave the idiotic political statements to Cindy McCain.
