Funny Sky Sports News Footage

Remember when Liverpool went down a goal to Havant & Waterlooville – twice? Or when they were beaten by Barnsley at Anfield? Here are some great clips from Sky Sports Soccer Saturday with Jeff Stelling when all the goals went in. There’s even a cameo from Fidel Castro. Fighting like Beavers?

Soccer Saturday – Some great FA Cup moments from 07/08

Sky Sports presenters Tony Wrighton and Millie Clode having a laugh (literally) at a crying Brandt Snedeker following falling out of contention at the 2008 Masters golf tournament. Wrighton is off camera.

Bryant Gumbel leaves NFL Network

It’s about damned time:

Bryant Gumbel has given up his role as an NFL Network play-by-play announcer after two seasons.

The NFL Network said Friday it was looking for a new play-by-play announcer to work with Cris Collinsworth on the network’s Thursday and Saturday night games.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to call NFL Network games the past two years, which was a new experience for me,” Gumbel said in a statement. “But we’ve agreed that we’d all be better served going in different directions.”

What Did They Think Would Happen?

Olympic torch driven away from protesters

The threat of violent protests prompted officials to make unannounced changes in San Francisco as the Olympic torch run got under way. After a lighting ceremony, the torch vanished from public view for several minutes as it was taken to a nearby neighborhood, where runners resumed the relay.

They protested in Greece when they lit the torch.

They tried to steal it and fire-extinguish it in London.

They blocked roads in Paris along the torch route and the torch had to be taken by bus.

Before the torch got there, people scaled the Golden Gate bridge to put “FREE TIBET” signs.

So I ask you – after all that – after they even fored their warning shot … why would you still bring the torch to San Francisco. San Francisco of all places. They protest professionally there. I think you can study for a Protesting degree at Cal Berkeley. They’d protest protesting if they could. Why on earth would you even attempt to continue this farkaktah torch tour – that isn’t even contiguous? If you’re going to go anywhere to do this go to LA. Specifically Orange County. They wouldn’t care about Tibet unless it was the name of a trendy new restaurant that Kobe Bryant and George Clooney were a part owners of.If this is how China is going to dominate the world marketplace, I am no longer worried.

Wenger’s Done

Arsene Wenger’s DoneIf you don’t believe me – look at his body language. He’s been increasingly visibly upset in recent games as Arsenal’s Premier League season has unraveled, and once again in Liverpool as their Champions League campaign fizzled. Even before Adebayor’s supposed away-goal winner went in and especially after the Toure penalty on Babel, Wenger looked like he wanted to wrestle anyone in his immediate path. Why would he be behaving like this?

My only answer is that he knows this is his last year in North London. Even before this past off-season started, David Dien left the club. Dein was Wenger’s biggest supporter and the one that brought him to Arsenal 10+ years ago. And the ensuing few months were filled with wild speculation over takeovers from Stan Kroenke and Alisher Usmanov. And even though Wenger signed an extension earlier this season, one wonders that there isn’t an easily triggered out clause.

With many apparent openings in top European sides this summer (Madrid, Barcelona, the Milans, etc.) no doubt they’d love to have Wenger’s coaching talents and his beautiful free-flowing style of football. And without an uncertain transfer budget to worry about, he could build a team with the depth that he couldn’t afford at Arsenal.

Of course, I could be reading way too much into this. Maybe he was just upset that a 5 point lead in the Premiership evaporated just as soon as Eduardo’s broke his leg and now with the domestic cups gone and the European Cup run teetering, the only thing to look forward to was a slim chance of passing both Manchester United and Chelsea in the league.

But I don’t have a good feeling about this.
