Duke Mascot On The Injury List

Normally this would be funny. But because it’s Duke and everyone loves to hate Duke (including me) it rises to hilarious. You can cheat the refs, but you can’t cheat gravity:

… the opportunity to wonder if all the paranoia about officiating heavily favoring the Blue Devils at home is really true. If you’re a conspiracy theorist, you might want to get your hands on tape of last night’s game. Georgia Tech didn’t take a free throw until the final 10 minutes. Folks, that isn’t easy to do.

But the unintentional highlight of the night came when the Duke mascot did its usual rolling surf board trick in the first half — and proceeded to fall off and eventually limp off the court, as Fayetteville Observer beat writer Dan Wiederer pointed out so eloquently.

It isn’t right to laugh at someone’s misfortune like that, but at some point, you have to ask yourself — How bright is it for a person wearing a giant mascot head on their noggin to be pulling that stunt over and over?

Check out the video and Jim Rome’s take:

HILLARY CLINTON IS A MUSLIM!

Do we want a Muslim president and first daughter in the White House? I don’t think so.

Paddy Power? Not So Much.

Paddy Kenny o.g. against Boro in the FA CupI think Paddy Kenny missed that ball last night because he wasn’t wearing the sweatpants he made popular last year in the premiership.

Middlesbrough needed a fluky own-goal from Paddy Kenny in extra-time to finally book their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United at the Riverside.

After two scoreless matches, the breakthrough finally came seven minutes from the end of extra-time when Boro netted their unconventional winner.

It came when the ball fell to Mido just inside the box, the Egyptian’s shot then took a massive deflection off Chris Morgan before looping onto the crossbar – the on-the-floor Kenny instinctively stuck an arm out to try and gather the ball only to push it into his own net.

Breaking the internet

Cool little javascriptexercise I found on Chasing Daisy

1. Go to Amazon (or Flickr or pretty much any website).
2. Delete everything in the address bar.
3. Paste this whole line into the address bar:

javascript:R=0; x1=.1; y1=.05; x2=.25; y2=.24; x3=1.6; y3=.24; x4=300; y4=200; x5=300; y5=200; DI=document.images; DIL=DI.length; function A(){for(i=0; i-DIL; i ){DIS=DI[ i ].style; DIS.position=’absolute’; DIS.left=Math.sin(R*x1 i*x2 x3)*x4 x5; DIS.top=Math.cos(R*y1 i*y2 y3)*y4 y5}R }setInterval(’A()’,5); void(0);

You can even turn it into a bookmarklet

Naturally 7

I found this awesome amateur music clip on Eve’s blog end of ten:

They are called Naturally 7 and they perform in a style they call “vocal speak”. They use absolutely no instruments—just their voices. As you watch them–you cannot believe there are no drums, bass, etc. Here is a clip I found of them on the Paris Subway. This video cracks me up. Especially the woman who basically coughs on them mid way through. Enjoy.

Yet Another Reason To Reject Extended Warranties

Interesting article on Consumerist.com on how Warranties: Best Buy Overlaps Their Product Service Plans With Manufacturer’s Warranty:

Wiliam writes in to point out something he noticed in the fine print of Best Buy’s Product Service Plan: it begins as soon as you purchase the item, and doesn’t cover anything covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. If you have a one-year manufacturer’s warranty and a two-year PSP, you effectively get only one year of coverage out of the PSP.

what amazes me is what they offer warranties on nowadays. $20 remote control cars. $50 cell phones. I fully expect to be offered a warranty on my Snickers bar soon!

Eduardo suffers broken leg

Horrific injury to Arsenal’s Croatian striker Eduardo da Silva in today’s match against Birmingham after an il-advised challenge by Martin Taylor. Surely a lengthy suspension is warranted.
