  • Isreal in debt to war hero Hiddink http://tinyurl.com/yoyvfh Hiddink’s dad saved Jews during WW2. Yet another reason to root against England #
  • WHAT A FINISH! Scotland and Russia lose at the death. England only needs a draw on Wednesday at home to Croatia to get into the tournament. #
  • McClaren’s been given a lifeline. If England loses this one there will be hell to pay! Meanwhile Scottish fans seem happy just to be there. #
  • Turkey are still alive by beating Norway. So is Bulgaria barring Holland’s result. #
  • How great was it to see Roman Abramovich’s sour face sitting in Tel Aviv while his Russian team got beat by a team with nothing to play for. #
  • Croatia got wind of the score in Israel and promptly conceeded two goals. England can actually win the group with a 2-0 win on Wednesday. #
  • Michigan lose to Ohio State - 4th time in a row. No Doubt Lloyd Carr is out now. Typifies his season to be sure. Also Harvard beat Yale :) #
  • GOODNESS!! Kyle Wright continues to think that he’s an asset running the ball. You’re there to throw (I think) You suck at running. STOP IT! #

Sick Of The 72 Dolphins Hate

Yo mama's so fat she uses a mattress for a tampon.

I posted most of this over at WithLeather’s 72 Dolphins Hate-a-thon. Mercury Morris turned up the volume (and rightfully so, I believe) about the whole “Are you scared the Patriots wil beat your record” crap:

And of course the common refrain when bashing the 72 Dolphins is: they didn’t play anyone. They played all teams with losing records. Like this is college football. Everyone seems to forget that the 72 Fins:

* Had 2 1000 yard rushers with Csonka and Morris

* Lost their Hall Of Fame starting QB for more than half the season and into the playoffs.

* Played the AFC title game ON THE ROAD

* Were the hump year of 3 consecutive Super Bowl trips

* Won the Super Bowl again the next year

Everyone wants to talk about winning percentage whenever they talk about the 72 Dolphins but every other great team before Rozelle’s and free agency’s parity had a chance to go undefeated - going back to the days when they played both ways and no one did it. Why do you have to hate this team for taking pride in it?

Is it because Chris Berman and all these shitty reporters perpetuate the myth of champagne celebrations that probably happened one time back in 85? Or is it because they are an easy target to make the enemies of the anti-asterisk Patriot fans. Come on - like someone said - they don’t seek out the cameras everytime a team goes 7-0. The cameras seek them out.

I’m sick of the anti-72 Dolphins vibe out there and I applaud Mercury for saying a big FU to all those people looking to hate others’ accomplishments.

Barry Bonds: Steroid Scapegoat?

Yo mama's so fat she got to pull down her pants to get into her pockets

No shit. President Bush had something to do with this:

If you were down with LBS going back a few months, you know that I was all over the upcoming indictment of Bonds. I said the feds were getting close to indicting him back in July, and also speculated that President Bush could have had something to do with it. For quite some time, I’ve had the inkling that Bonds was going to get indicted, and that Major League Baseball knew it was coming as well. All those questions about Bud Selig being reluctant to attend Barry’s record-breaking game? It’s because Selig didn’t want to be associated with a player guilty of federal crimes.

You know - as long as they come down on all the other roid users I’m fine with it. Even if it’s just some misdemeanor that they plead out of - as long as it’s on their record. The problem with singling out and only acting on one person is that it makes the issue seem as if it was ONLY about that one person. If Bush and all the headline seekers are only interested in hanging the big fish then I’d say that’s typical politics. But for the game of baseball to not follow up hard on this is quite frankly sad.

The other thing that bothers me about this is that Bush owned the Texas Rangers at the time Jose Canseco was there being “The God Father of Roids.” You’re telling me that as an owner he knew nothing about what was going on behind the scenes? That’s the biggest lie in the world. I’d expect that from a shady guy like Bush since I’ve seen his body of work over the past 7 years, but if Baseball is really serious about cleaning itself up, it can’t keep pulling the wool over it’s own eyes. The cheaters will always be ahead of the drug testers. Another reason why baseball sucks.

0-9 Lives Here

Yo mama's so big her belly button's got an echo.

Ricky “What urine test” Williams gets reinstated and put back on the team in the same week that rookie John Beck is put in as the starter. Now I’m confident … that we have a great chance to go 0-16. Cam Cameron has made so many mistakes this season (dumping Daunte AND trading for Trent Green, signing Joey Porter to play in a 4-3 defense for $20M, picking Lorenzo Booker in the 3rd round and not using him all season, …) it’s almost comical. The defense is in shambles, the passing game has shown a severe lack of talent or stability and now, by waiting for Cleo Lemon to completely fuck up a winnable game and by welcoming back Ricky Williams, we’ve finally added a third ring to this circus. The Sun Sentinel’s Dave Hyde seems to think that Cam is swallowing his pride:

That John Beck is starting Sunday in Philadelphia is welcome and overdue and says Cameron’s first two hopes at quarterback failed. He’s down to playing the rookie he carefully plotted never to play this year. This is a coach whose expertise is quarterbacks, too.

That Ricky Williams is invited back says the Dolphins still have a dependency problem on him as much as he does on marijuana. Cameron talked tough in the spring about winning with “character” players. He talked about judging people’s future actions by their past actions.

It sounded swell in theory. Only now it’s November, the Dolphins are 0-9, their top running back is hurt, they need every trading chip for the future and need a win even more than that.

Linebacker Joey Porter, another “character” guy, put it best and most honestly: “I don’t care who you get. If you get bin Laden and he could run the ball like Ricky, I’d do anything for a victory.”

I, on the other hand, think he’s in over his head, doesn’t know what he’s doing and is grasping at straws. If it was indeed his intention to not start Beck at all this year, a 26 year old graduate of BYU who spent his early-20s on a Mormon mission and one would think the maturity to lead a team that averages 5.2 yards per rush, then he’s either a bad judge of talent or coaching scared. Rookie Trent Edwards’ contribution in Buffalo proves that any imaginative OC could design an offense that can minimize the risks around a rooke QB.

If indeed this isn’t just a case of the rookie oops (and I’ll discount his career losing college head coaching record) then it proves once again that Wayne Huizenga, while providing unlimited resources to his credit, cannot form the correct organizational structure or hire accordingly to save his life. 4 head coaches in 3 seasons and they all suck. I hope I’m proven wrong next year.
