Yo mama's so ugly when she was born, her mama'saw the afterbirth and said "Twins!"It seems that Palm has yet another iceberg hitting the ship. It’s not enough that they sold their historic PalmOS to Access, then refused to implement ALP (Access Linux Platform), their next gen version of Palm OS, opting to instead work on its own. It’s not enough that they wasted an entire year and a half on the Foleo project which was shelved shortly before it’s release - and after mass production. It’s not enough that their new Linux-based OS is a project that won’t see the light of day until early 2009. But now it seems Access is giving away the old PalmOS to whoever is buying. They’ve just introduced a PalmOS emulator for Nokia’s Internet Tablets:

ACCESS, the people who purchased the spin off of the software division of a once healthy company known as Palm, are announcing the release of a beta virtual machine that will allow people who own a Nokia 770, N800 and N810 to run Garnet applications. The VM will be out by the end of the year, for free. Breathing life into Maemo by enabling Palm application to run? It just might work Johny. It certainly solves the lack of PIM issue in one swift move.
Meanwhile all the attention for the future of the Mobile OS market has shifted to Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android platform while Windows Mobile and Blackberry units are entrenched in corporate IT departments. If Access allows an avenue for the thousands of PalmOS applications to be run on Nokias, iPhones, and other platforms, would there really be any compelling reason to stick with the Palm Treo or to wait on their next gen os?
