When they said a female Cheney was going to be on the Daily Show I immediately thought it was going to be the lesbian daughter, the phrase that John Edwards famously repeated ad nauseum at one of the 2004 VP debates. But it wasn’t until I saw her that I realized that Lynne Cheney was the WIFE not the daughter. WOW – The Second Lady – what a get! She even presented John with a peace offering from the administration.
Lynne Cheney, the wife of Vice President Dick Cheney, appeared on “The Daily Show,” Oct. 10. to talk about her new memoir, Blue Sky, No Fences and about life in the White House. But before the interview got started, she brought with her a special gift for host Jon Stewart — a Darth Vader doll.
His interview with former WH Press Sec’y Tony Snow (who’s also battling cancer) wasn’t half as bad.
The night’s guest was former White House Press Secretary Tony Snow. Yeah, I know! I’m just as surprised as you are. Anyway, Tony Snow did look great, I’ll give him that much. I still don’t like the guy, but part of me feels like I shouldn’t dislike him as much as I do. He was just the messenger, after all. The messenger with the shit-eating grin. Ahem. Anyway. It was a super-special two part interview, but the good stuff didn’t come until the very end. The first part of the interview dragged a bit, but at least Jon cut a little deeper in the second segment. It was a good discussion, but not quite as riveting as Jon’s last big-shot political guest, Lynne Cheney. Pretty much, Jon asked a lot about Bush’s choice of words and Snow did his best to defend him. Just like old times!
It was pretty funny how they started to engage in battle – like friends off the court but battle hardened enemies on it. All in all a pretty respectful interview where agreeing to disagree replaced the namecalling and yelling that you constantly see on the cable news channels.
